Tasmanian Ports Corporation Pty Ltd (TasPorts) is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of 10 ports across Tasmania. For over 10 years, Veritas has been the preferred supplier of Maritime Security Identification Cards (MSIC) for TasPorts.
After reviewing the current port access process, several operational improvements were identified. By combining the MSIC and port access card, administration overhead could be reduced and significant security benefits could be implemented.
From 1 August 2017, new identity verification requirements commence. All applicants for an MSIC card must have their identify verified 'in-person'.
By using its existing technologies, Veritas developed a tailored solution for TasPorts by integrating the MSIC card with their induction and access control systems.
By combining the MSIC and access card, users no longer need to carry two separate cards, and TasPorts no longer needs to engage a third party to process inductions.
Through Veritas' partnership with Australia Post, all users applying for an MSIC can conveniently lodge their application at Australia Post outlets nationwide, including 13 sites around Tasmania.
The integrated MSIC, induction and access card solution has delivered significant staffing efficiencies, allowing six TasPorts employees to undertake other operational tasks within the company.
